Melbourne, one of the great cities of the world. Contemporary, creative, culturally diverse, rich in art, music, theatre, a UNESCO city of literature, a density of cafes, bars and culinary delights, home to Australia’s great sporting traditions …and bikes. Lots and lots of bikes.

Then there are Melbourne’s revered cycling sons – Hubert Opperman, Phil Anderson, Cadel Evans. All journeyed to Europe to leave their tracks on the world stage. Now those tracks lead the world to Melbourne and I have followed…

I’m sitting in a cafe – the woman next to me just toasted her friends “Here’s to Melbourne. She’s a beautiful lady”.
